A Holistic & Spiritual View of Chronic Disease
Dis-ease is the absence of ease.
I am not a medical doctor, nor am I a “licensed healthcare provider.” While those realms certainly have their merit, and I am grateful they exist, it is obvious that the narrow focuses of Western medicine have failed, as evidenced by the persistent and mysterious “chronic disease” label. Western Medicine fails to address and appreciate the multidimensional aspects of the human.
The subtle is always creating the gross. The subtle realms of your being (your emotional, mental, and spiritual aspects) are creating and re-creating your gross experiences (your physical body and other tangible, 3D aspects). You can’t just treat the gross and attempt to beat it into submission.
The body is often times simply acting in a way it feels is most in alignment with your current needs. The subtle, root cause will continue to dictate the show regardless of how many detoxes, herbal protocols, and other things you throw at the body. Until the subtle programming that is creating the dis-eased state is addressed and shifted, the gross is going to have a very difficult time healing.
It may feel “easier” to simply fixate on the physical challenges instead of searching out the subtle causes of any chronic illness, but that won’t yield profound change. Healing Chronic Disease requires more and different ways than what we’ve been taught. It’s necessary to move beyond the physical challenge and get to the root of things with holistic healing and integrative wellness methods such as Shadow Work.
All dis-ease and suffering is an invitation and initiation towards a different, more awakened and aligned way of living. Dis-ease doesn’t occur in an aligned state. Dis-ease occurs because of stagnation. Chronic Dis-ease persists because the misalignment and stagnation persist. After all, ease of function is the desire of the body. Give it its required conditions on all levels and watch as its function improves.
Alternative & Complementary Modalities to Enhance Healing Chronic Disease:
Support all levels of your being – physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. Does your care plan include modalities/activities to nourish each of these realms? Are you actually enjoying your care plan? Does it feel arbitrary, obligatory, and like you have had no say or input in it?
Obviously, many of the following suggestions will overlap into other areas. For example, my yoga practice not only nourishes my physical body, it greatly integrates and supports my emotional, mental, and spiritual bodies, as well. The ideal situation is to find those kinds of things for YOU – the ones that satisfy as many realms as possible. This is how you know you’re on to something and it’s authentically serving you.
• Chiropractic Care
• Massage Therapy
• Creativity like art, singing, acting
• Shadow Work
• Engaging in spiritual study
• Reading uplifting and inspiring texts
• Community study or meditation/worship groups
I’m not suggesting anyone give up their Western Medical approach. What I am suggesting is that you understand the options available to you. Furthermore, I’m inviting you to understand the deeper nuances at play in your unique challenges. You have more power in your own healing than you’ve been led to believe. Intuitively, we know what has led to our dis-ease. I invite you to trust that, lean into that, and allow that cause to also be the medicine.
