I get asked frequently, “What is a Holistic Life Coach?”
I get it, in an era where anyone with an internet connection can create a job and a title for themselves, it leaves many of us wary and skeptical. This is a title that others have used and it’s not a title I am crazy about, to be honest. The truth is, there aren’t titles or labels or terms to adequately describe me and the work I do or to convey the passion and experience I bring to each of my clients.
I am a mystic, shadow worker, catalyst, writer, teacher, healer, lover, daughter, sister, wife, medicine woman, priestess, shaman, plant whisperer, alchemist, lunar creator, and so much more. However, for the purposes of simplicity and piquing your interest in a manner that can be more easily received, Holistic Life Coach will suffice.
So what do I mean by Holistic Life Coach?
“Holistic,” while a buzzword, is a concept about which I am incredibly passionate. To look at something holistically is to view it in its entirety wherein each part is given equal attention, focus, and analysis. In healing our bodies, addressing symptoms as if they’re the “problem” reduces our interwoven parts to separate pieces. However, nothing is separate! Struggling with finding purpose in your life? That’s just a symptom yet again and not the actual root of the challenge you’re experiencing. To view something wholly is to recognize that each and every part is playing a role in bringing you closer towards or further away from peace, grace, health, and joy.
It’s my mission and my role as a Holistic Life Coach with my unique background, expertise, tools, resources, education, etc. to guide you towards being a more integrated being. It’s my mission and my passion to help you see that the dis-ease you’re experiencing in your body is actually linked to the toxic and dysfunctional childhood you endured, for example. My highest passion in the realm of transformation is reminding you of your own innate power to heal through seeing and accepting what currently is happening for you.
As a Holistic Life Coach, I guide you in integrating and healing all aspects of your being – physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual. With my background in extensive studies on the physical body, health, nutrition, and herbs, I use the body as an entry point and canvas. Through beginning to understand and feel that the “subtle creates the gross,” you become more empowered and sovereign and able to see the interconnected nature of your being. You live in a more holistic way. You stop fixating on the surface, physical challenges and broaden your perspective. You see how and why other systems in your life are not bringing you closer towards peace, grace, health, and joy, and together we intuitively course correct.
Being your Holistic Life Coach means I am your biggest cheerleader and will love you with the ferocity of a Mama Wolf (an affectionate nickname given to me by a client). This means nothing gets past me, I won’t cosign your bullshit, and every aspect of your being and your life must be evaluated. It means we will courageously navigate the depths of your own personal underworld to harvest the wisdom from your shadows so that your light shines more brightly.
Physical healing, emotional body fluidity, mindset shifts, eradicating limiting beliefs, de-shaming, deepening into your spiritual world, embodying Earth wisdom, navigating life’s challenges, creating sustainable change, experiencing more meaningful relationships, living your purpose, and so much more are what a Holistic Life Coach can help you discover.
I help you receive the vision you truly hold for yourself and your life. I help you break through any illusions of doubt or stories to give yourself permission to create that life to embody your ideal self. I help you bridge the gap between who you currently are and who you’re becoming. I am right there with you, walking beside you and am fiercely dedicated to walking my talk, as well. I’ve been where you are and can help you reclaim your own unique vision and voice.
What does it take to be a Holistic Life Coach?
I’m often asked what the difference is between therapy and coaching. There are many! In the simplest nutshell, coaching isn’t regulated and doesn’t require licensing, degrees, or training to claim the title. This is both a blessing and a curse! As I mentioned above, anybody with an internet connection can get online and call themselves anything they want, so you’re bound to get a lot of people out there making claims and promises they’re unable to deliver. At the same time, I’m not one to believe in somebody’s authority just because the have fancy degrees. Having credentials, like certificates, degrees, or even a PhD, doesn’t mean that you have what it takes to truly help people.
Therapy requires higher education and licensing and continued education. Therapy tends to be very retrospectively and emotionally focused. While coaching does look to the past and offers emotional support, much is geared towards claiming radical self-responsibility for the present and working towards creating the future.
While I don’t subscribe to the credentialist view of the world, I do love learning!
I’m always studying and adding new sets of skills, experience, and knowledge to my repertoire. I received a Masters degree in Nutrition and Integrative Health from Maryland University of Integrative Health. I’ve earned a Registered Yoga Teacher certification. I’m a certified Flower Essence therapist, Energy Healer, and lifelong student of herbalism, just to name a few.
I study and learn because it’s what I love to do, and I’m passionate about sharing all of this with you. The real proof of my qualifications isn’t in any degree or certification, it’s in the impact that I’ve had on my clients lives. Stop by the Testimonials page to see what these awesome people have to say about their experiences.
Additionally coaches, such as myself, tend to have additional areas of expertise they bring to the table, such as integrative health, energy healing, plant medicine, and more. Both are invaluable and both have their time and place for us on our paths. How blessed are we to live in a time where so many options are available to us! Bottom line: working with a Holistic Life Coach or a therapist can be incredibly beneficial.
